How to make Heart Marshmallows

Heart Marshmallows

Marshmallows are surprisingly easy to make. I used Alton Brown’s recipe (on the Food Network website) and it worked out well. The heart marshmallows I made were thicker than I would’ve liked them. Since it was my first time making them, they still turned out great. The next time I make marshmallows, I will use a more shallow baking pan and spread the marshmallow batter out as evenly as I can so the marshmallows have a flat surface. The nice thing about making your own marshmallows is that you know that it is fresh. Plus, they make a sweet gift to give to someone.

Heart Marshmallows

Ingredients

  • 3 pkg unflavored gelatin
  • 1 cup ice cold water divided
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup confectioners' sugar (powder sugar)
  • 1/4 cup corn starch
  • food coloring optional
